Periodontal (Gum Disease) Therapy

Periodontal therapy can take various forms. Dr. Shack’s objective is always to restore diseased tissues to health, and give patients the confidence of a healthy smile. Gum (periodontal) disease can spread from the gums to the bone that supports the teeth, and, in severe cases, may even cause tooth loss. Dr. Shack offers very effective therapies to combat gum disease, including minimally invasive laser therapy to eliminate bacteria and repair of lost gum and bone tissue. Dr. Shack uses the Fotona Lightwalker Laser to accomplish these goals, helping to restore your healthy, beautiful smile.

Bad Breath

Gingivitis, or gum inflammation, is caused by a buildup of bacteria in plaque, causing the gums to become inflamed and to easily bleed during tooth brushing. A sign of gingivitis is often bad breath. When gingivitis is left untreated, it can advance to periodontitis, or gum disease. Dr. Shack offers non-surgical treatments to control bacteria as well as surgical treatments to restore the tissue around the teeth.

TMD, Grinding and Clenching

Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are problems that affect your temporomandibular joint (TMJ), or jaw joint. They also can affect the muscles of the face that help you to chew. Grinding and clenching can cause severe wear of your teeth, making them look shorter, and can lead to destruction of the bone supporting your teeth as well as causing ear or headaches and facial pain. Common causes of TMD include injury, clenching, grinding, arthritis, and stress. If you are suffering from pain in your jaw, Dr. Shack can consult with you to review several options for relief.
